FARM+ Program Expands Sustainable Agriculture and Input Transition with Over $1 Billion Investment
The FARM+ initiative launched in Bangkok, expanding across Africa and global markets with over $1 billion in GEF funding and co-financing to curb harmful agrochemicals.
Launch of the FARM+ Initiative in Bangkok
On October 15, 2026, international agricultural stakeholders convened at the inaugural FARM the Transition Forum in Bangkok, Thailand, to formally launch the FARM+ programme. The event marks an expansion of the existing FARM framework, designed to scale support for sustainable, climate-resilient agricultural systems worldwide.
The launch at the Bangkok forum represents a coordinated effort to advance safer farming practices globally. By building on the foundation established by the original FARM initiative, FARM+ focuses on accelerating the transition toward agricultural production methods that prioritize environmental sustainability and long-term resilience across participating farming sectors.
Mobilizing Over $1 Billion for Input and Practices Transition
Financing remains a critical pillar of the expanded programme. Together, the FARM and FARM+ programmes represent a combined investment exceeding US$1 billion in Global Environment Facility (GEF) funding and co-financing.
This capital mobilization is earmarked to finance systemic shifts in how agricultural systems operate, focusing directly on safer, sustainable, and climate-resilient practices. By deploying combined resources at scale, the funding structure provides foundational support for participating countries seeking to transition away from conventional, input-intensive models toward practices that safeguard ecosystems while sustaining productivity.

Geographic Scope Across Africa and Global Markets
The rollout of FARM+ brings the original programme into several new countries across Africa, Latin America, and Asia. The expansion covers Benin, Costa Rica, Egypt, the Gambia, Ghana, Mauritius, Mexico, Nepal, and Nigeria.
The inclusion of these nine nations introduces a broad spectrum of production environments and supply chain contexts into the initiative. African nations comprise a substantial share of the newly incorporated markets, extending the framework across West Africa, North Africa, and the Indian Ocean, alongside key partner nations in Latin America and South Asia.

Core Objectives: Inputs, Soil Health, and Value Chains
At the operational level, FARM+ is targeted at key areas of agricultural management and input use. Central to the programme's mission is reducing reliance on harmful agrochemicals across participating farming systems.
Alongside the reduction of hazardous inputs, the initiative focuses on restoring soil health and strengthening agricultural value chains. By targeting both environmental factors—such as soil integrity and safer farm-level inputs—and the commercial infrastructure of value chains, the initiative seeks to establish viable, climate-resilient agricultural pathways in each participating country.
