Strategic Partnership for Fresh Fruit Infrastructure at Dunkirk

On October 26, 2026, fresh fruit specialist Omer-Decugis & Cie and SEMMARIS, the management company of the Rungis International Market, finalized an agreement to develop a dedicated fresh fruit platform at the Port of Dunkirk. The planned facility will focus on four core operational functions: cold and ambient storage, sorting and packaging, fruit ripening, and order preparation.

This initiative serves as a primary operational anchor for the broader Rungis-Dunkirk agri-logistics hub project. By integrating maritime port facilities directly with France's primary wholesale food distribution network, the partnership addresses key supply chain imperatives, specifically the enhancement of French food sovereignty and the modernization of distribution corridors connecting international maritime trade routes to European consumer markets.

Operational Division and Investment Structure

The framework agreed upon by the two entities divides the development and operational responsibilities between real estate execution and specialized industrial outfitting. Under this structure, SEMMARIS assumes management of the real estate and property development aspects of the site at the Port of Dunkirk.

Omer-Decugis & Cie will enter into a long-term lease agreement for the completed facility. Additionally, the group will take direct financial responsibility for technical systems, ripening equipment, temperature-controlled packaging infrastructure, and day-to-day operational machinery required to run the hub. This structural division allows each entity to leverage its core balance sheet and operational strengths to accelerate delivery.

Ripening Capacity Expansion and Supply Chain Resilience

The Dunkirk logistics platform is scheduled to begin commercial operations by late 2027. Once operational, the site will deliver a significant scale increase for Omer-Decugis & Cie, boosting the group's total ripening capacity from its current level of 174,000 tonnes to an estimated 324,000 tonnes.

Beyond expanding processing volume, the platform is designed to support the decarbonization and structural resilience of European food supply chains. By siting high-throughput ripening, storage, and packaging capabilities directly at an import point of entry, the project streamlines handling paths and mitigates domestic transport redundancies for fresh produce heading into French and continental distribution corridors.
