Russia and Togo Expand Agricultural Trade with Seven Bilateral Agreements
Russia and Togo signed seven bilateral trade agreements during the 2026 Russia-Africa Summit, targeting fertilizer exports, Togolese agricultural imports, and port infrastructure.
Bilateral Agreements Established at Moscow Summit
On the sidelines of the 2026 Russia-Africa Summit held in Moscow, Russia and Togo officially signed seven new bilateral agreements aimed at strengthening trade relations between the two countries.
Prior to the signing of these agreements, bilateral trade between Russia and Togo had already reached a value of US$852 million. The new arrangements build upon this existing economic partnership, formalizing commitments to deepen trade interactions across key commercial sectors.
Agricultural Exchange and Fertilizer Supply
A primary component of the newly established agreements is the structured exchange of agricultural goods and inputs. Under the terms confirmed by both nations, the trade framework focuses heavily on Russian exports of fertilizer to Togo.
In return, the trade flow emphasizes Togolese agricultural commodity imports into the Russian market. This bilateral exchange targets core agricultural supply needs, facilitating the distribution of essential soil nutrients while securing market access for Togo's agricultural commodities.
Port Infrastructure and Diplomatic Engagement
Beyond direct commodity trade, the bilateral dialogue extended to logistics and infrastructure development. Russia expressed official interest in investing in the infrastructure of Togo's Lomé Port, a critical maritime hub for trade in West Africa.
This expansion in trade and logistical focus coincides with broader diplomatic developments in the region. Togo represents one of several African nations where Russian diplomatic missions have recently resumed operations, signaling a formal renewal of bilateral channels and oversight.
